Ken's Trailer for Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist

New trailer for the Street Fighter series starting Ken Masters. The story is about the years Ken and Ryu spend becoming Ansatsuken masters. At last, a live action Street Fighter project with the true main characters of the series!(I know Gouki/Akuma appears but I hope we can get Sagat too) Really hyped with these teasers, can't wait for the upload of the first episode in the Machinima Youtube channel.

Gundam UC Episode 7 preview

Watch the first 7 minutes of the latest entry in the Gundam series. Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the most popular and beloved animated series in Japan. The character designs really shines, the characters look different (Bright and Kai are back!). And the mecha action is top notch. Check it out! (this is the Japanese dubbed clip, here's the English preview).

BK Tripleta Sandwich

If you think Japan is the only part of the world that serves weird fast food, think again. Here in Puerto Rico Burger King is the most popular fast food franchise (source in spanish). It's natural that the company incorporates local foods and flavors. Right now, Burger King has tripleta sandwich in their menu. Tripleta is a very popular meat sandwich in Puerto Rico. It's main ingredients are cube steak, roasted ham (Pernil), boiled ham and swiss cheese.

How was it? Not bad. A good option if you're tired of Whoppers or chicken sandwich. If you want to experience the traditional tripleta, then the BK one is not for you. The best ones are usually found in street carts (Chinchorros) all around the island. I can highly recommend Tico Tripleta in Old San Juan, the sandwiches are delicious and huge.

The new Comixology Update is... dissapointing

Today, without any warning or previous announcement, Comixology updated their mobile app for Android and iOS. This update includes a new cart system for a faster purchase experience, includes Paypal and credit cards as payment options, and bug fixs. Sounds great, right? Well, it's not. While these features are great there is a disappointing restriction for each platform.

Just in time for the second Amazing movie, Comixology is having a Superior Spidey sale, which includes issues from 1-22 from the series, Superior Spider-Man Team Up 1-4, and Superior Foes of Spider-Man 1-6. The main Superior series is fantastic and highly recomended. Sale ends April 27, 2014.

Iga Ueno Ninja Festival

In Japan, from April 5 to May 6 of 2014 a Ninja Festival is being held at Iga Ueno (part of the Mie Prefecture). In such festivities (and specially in the weekends), the people (and pets!!!) dress like ninja and walk around town in plain daylight (basically like a 80's ninja movie). But it doesn't stop there. Head to the Ninja Museum, where you can learn even more about these warrior; such as their weapons, houses, customs and code language (color coded rice grains!). There is also the Iga Ueno Castle, a magnificent fortress that holds a collection of artifacts (this castle was used by Akira Kurosawa for the movie Kagemusha). And last but not least, there's the Danjiri Museum, which holds an exhibition about the Ueno Tenjin and Oni-gyoretsu festivals. If you are in Japan or planing to go to Japan (everybody should), this is a must-see for otakus and people interested in culture.

Warning
Even though the castle and museums have English translations, most of the town people don't speak English. If you plan to go, try to learn the basics of the Japanese language. Also, getting to Iga Ueno can be really tricky, here's a link that will help you get there by train. If you plan to go to Japan, buy a Rail Pass here (it's a must).

Here's a link to the Ninja Museum website.

Until next time!!! (またね)

Beautiful remake of the Macross Intro

A truly amazing work of animation. Hikaru (Rick Hunter) is one of my favorite animated characters and this short brings so many memories of the series (specially Robotech in my case). Would love to see an HD remake of the series or a movie trilogy using this style of animation and character design.

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist looks epic!!!

Check Ryu's trailer above. This web series is truly the work of people who genuinely love Street Fighter. It looks impressive, even better than the Street Fighter Legacy short film that the team produced some years ago. The series will debut on Machinima YouTube channel before being released in disc and digital formats.

Hollywood, this is how you do adaptations of video games (or any other source material). Get someone who respects the source material. This is the first time a Street Fighter live action project looks worthy of watching. It is also the first one to portrait Ryu and Ken as the main characters. The characters look good and close to their video game counterparts. If only The King of Fighters got this treatment (I'll review that live action movie when I find the courage to watch it again).

Adventures of Superman (2013) is coming to an end...

or so it seems judging from the description of the series latest issue:

"In the series' final chapter, legends Jerry Ordway and Steve Rude tell the story of Superman's first encounter with a hero from the future--OMAC: the One-Man Army Corps"

Well, it was good while it lasted. This digital-first anthology had some of the best Superman stories in years. We'll have to wait and see if another volume is released (like Injustice) of is replased by a different title altogether. Adventures of Superman can be found in the Comixology website (and smartphone app) and in print edition.

What is going to happen to Nightwing Post-Forever Evil

Corbert to replace Letterman as the host of the Late Show

I love late night talk shows (I rarely watch them because of work but I catch up with YouTube clips) and the announcement of  David Letterman retirement from CBS Late Show came out of nowhere. After days of speculations the successor was been chosen and is none other than Stephen Colbert. This is very exciting since it is more likely that we will meet another phase of Colbert besides his conservative character featured in his Comedy Central show. Still, it sad that to see the Colbert Report go. Stephen's premiere night as the new host will be sometime in 2015.

Getter Robo 40th Anniversary

40 years ago, the late Ken Ishigawa and Go Nagai (of Mazinger Z fame) created one of the most influential Super Robots series, Getter Robo.  It follows the adventures of Ryoma, Hayato and Musashi, the pilots of three plane-like vehicles that can combine into three different robots; as they fight evil dinosaurs, demons, shape-shifting aliens and sometimes themselves. It is one of the first (if not the first) transforming robot and appears in almost every Super Robot Wars game.
