 May 1st celebrates the release of Detective Comics #27, the first appearance of Batman. Let's give the Caped Crusader a day off to enjoy his favorite couch.

Fun with Photoshop: My take on the new Joker

 

An image that seems to be the design for the Joker in the Suicide Squad movie was released last Friday and fans don't seem very happy.I don't mind the body tattoos but I don't think someone like the Joker would have them in his face. While it looks more like a henchman than Mr. J, the design could work. Let's remember one thing from the Grant Morrison's Batman run, the Joker reinvents himself each time (like David Bowie). The biggest flaw (in my opinion) is the lack of his iconic smile (he is the Joker after all). So, here it its, no face tattoos, more eyebrows and his classic grin. Enjoy!

Batman V Superman trailer is here!

Looks great! I'm interested to know how Superman's powers are corrupting him or if it's just a voice over for the trailer. Some parts have an Injustice (the game) like-vibe (soldiers kneeling before Zod... I mean Superman and having a statue of him in Metropolis). .I love the DKR Bat-Armor! Sadly, the movie is one year away.

DC, make a Digital First comic series featuring this guy!

Square Enix made one Hell of a Batman figure! Wild West Batman is part of a the Timeless Batman series of action figures featuring versions of the Dark Knight Detective from different eras. DC has released various stories featuring a cowboy Batman but this design is the best, by far! If you have the space and $120 you can preorder this baby.

Post-Convergence Thoughts

DC released their June solicits and lots of things are changing. We have new titles (Dr. Fate), returning on-goings (Grayson doesn’t seem to change much), “missing” characters or worse (Kyle Rayner!) and redesigned costumes for most of the iconic heroes (but they appear in their New52 costumes in the JL titles for some reason):

Clark, it's like you're not even trying.

Superman: Don’t like it. He looks more like Pre-52 Superboy than Superman (plus he got a new costume like five minutes ago). The New 52 Action Comics design was good because it was he starting out as a hero, he didn’t have the uniform yet but at least he looked like Supes. While I like the new S shield, the rest is weak (seriously, not even the red cape!).

Super Robot Wars here I come!

Batman (or BatLabor): Seriously, it looks like one of the mechs from the Patlabor anime series from the 80’s. This All New Batman may not be Bruce Wayne since it appears to be a cop or at least working closely with the police. It would be extra awesome if it were Alfred or Jean-Paul Valley. Looks like a good design for a one time Bat-Suit.

Wonder Woman: I like it! Could loose the Azrael-like blades but never the less it’s an awesome suit.

Pre-52 Wally would be proud!

Flash and Green Arrow: They seem to resemble their TV versions. Flash suit, while it looks a little busy, it's the best of the bunch. Green Arrow could change the gloves, baggy pants and boots.

The Emerald Lantern

Green Lantern: Hal goes renegade and wearing a cloak or a hoodie (Scarlet-Spider anyone?). I’m interested in the new direction for the character, but if he really wears a hoodie in space, then that would be laughable.









Not very interested in these changes and with the current economy, this will be a relief to my pocket since April and May will leave me broke with so many Convergence tie-ins (Speed-Force, New Teen Titans, Parallax and Shadow of the Bat!). Will pick up Grayson on print, while I might pick up others like Dr. Fate and Earth 2 Society (New Batman over there, might be Dick Grayson) on digital format once the price drops, to give them a chance.

What I want for Christmas

It's that time of the year! Christmas is a special time, it makes adults feel like kids again. Decorate the house with thousand of lights, wear ridiculous clothes of accessories, care about each other and brainstorm what would you want to give... or receive as a present. Well, these are the things I would love to (but surely won't) receive on Christmas!

Um Conto De Batman: Na Psicose Do Ventríloquo movie review

 Between Dark Knight Rises and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there is Um Conto De Batman: Na Psicose Do Ventríloquo (A Batman's Tale: In The Psychosis Of The Ventriloquist). Brazilian director Elvis Delbagno offers a new vision of the Caped Crusader, featuring an obscure villain and projecting social concerns from Brazil.This film is a great example that you don’t need millions of dollars and huge stars to make a good Batman movie. And yes, the film is in Portuguese.

Fun with Photoshop: Justice League of America for the NES

 This is another game I would have loved as a kid. There aren't many NES games with DC characters, only Batman and Superman that I remember (and The Flash for Sega Master System). The characters in the cover were drawn by José Luis García Lopez, one of my favorite artist of all time. He is so good rendering the Heroes that DC keeps using his illustrations from the 80's.

New Batman v Superman photo!

Set photographer Clay Enos released this picture via his twitter account. Have to say, Ben Affleck looks the part and judging by his last movies (Argo was excellent) he can act it as well. My only concern about this movie is the amount of characters the studio wants to cram into. The have 2 characters popular enough to carry a movie about them sitting in a food court for an hour and a half, you don't need more people to make a story more interesting. Studios should stop trying to imitate Marvel Studio by putting a lot of characters in 1 movie without properly introducing them.

With the 75 anniversary celebration, DC Comics is having a $.99 an issue sale for 7 days! .It is a great opportunity to catch up with the Caped Crusader's adventures. This Wednesday is Batman Day

Celebrating 75 years of the iconic character, DC will release a special edition of Detective Comics #27 (his first appearance) that include the original story by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, a retelling by  Brad Meltzer with art by Bryan Hitch, and more. Also, there will be capes and 4 Batman masks based on different eras of the Caped Crusader's history. These items will be available at participant comic stores only. This is a really awesome promotion for the character, I don't remember if they gave Superman this treatment last year but oh well...(he had a movie I guess).

DC's new books ads are weird

If you bought a comic book published by DC, you might have seen these ads. They try to be funny but at the same time they seem very weird and making you think twice before purchasing the book. Let's take a look at the add for Grayson.

It sounds really aggressive. The use of the character name as a pun feels really rushed and in need of attention. If you think this is bad, wonder what was left in the cutting room. What kind of ideas has the marketing agency throwing at 3 of the morning. Join me after the jump to see that it could have been much worst (and before you ask, I don't work for DC or any company affiliated with them, this were done for fun).

 

Batman Manga from the 60's released

Bat Punch suckaa!!!

Last Saturday, DC released the first part of the Batman Manga (by Jiro Kuwata) as part of it's digital first series. New chapters will be added each weekend and will cost $0.99 (I think). Look for it on comiXology and Android Play Store.

New Superman v Batman image!!!

This new image features Superman (Henry Cavill) from the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (plus Alpha). We see the Man of Steel in what I think is Gotham City. The picture looks really dark. I have no problem with Batman being dark but Superman should be light. That's what make their friendship/rivalry work. The film will open in 2016.

More Batman titles coming this Fall

Apparently we didn't had enough

Newsarama reports that 2 new Batman titles will be released this October, Gotham Academy (written by Becky Cloonan and Brendan Fletcher, drawn by Karl Kerschl) and Arkham Manor (written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Shawn Crystal).

I love Batman since forever, but DC is really stretching him thin. One of the things that DC did right with The New 52 relaunch (reboot) was the variety of genre, we had military, westerns, fantasy and horror; now all we are getting are superheroes (and most of them are Bat-Titles).

JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time review

It's like the Super Friends, but in a good way!

 Over the past few years, DC Entertainment has released direct-to-video animated movies for a more adult audience. JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time  goes for the 5 to 10 years old. It tabs into the more Saturday morning, campy approach. It's a great introduction of the DC Universe for a younger audience.

Superior Spider-Man Digital Comics Sale and More!!!

Just in time for the second Amazing movie, Comixology is having a Superior Spidey sale, which includes issues from 1-22 from the series, Superior Spider-Man Team Up 1-4, and Superior Foes of Spider-Man 1-6. The main Superior series is fantastic and highly recomended. Sale ends April 27, 2014.

Also, DC is offering discounts on retellings of the origin of some of their most popular characters with the Secret Origins Digital Comics Sale. This includes the popular stories like Batman Year One, Man of Steel and JLA Year One. Worth checking out. Sale ends April 28, 2014.

The third one is a Transformers Dark Cybertron Sale. I'm not familiar with this comic series but it has the 80's animated series character designs. If you are interested, check the issues available and see what you can find. Sale ends April 27, 2014.

And finally, a The Darkness Sale that includes issues (1-115) and digital collections. I haven't read this series, so I can't tell how good it this. But, if you are interested, it's a great time to check it out. Sale ends April 28, 2014.

20 years of "The Manga Nut with a Power Ring"

I know its kind of old new, but better late than never. It's been 2 decades since DC Comics introduced the graphic designer turned super-hero Kyle Rayner. After the third volume of Green Lantern sales were struggling, DC needed to shake up things to raise interest. They published a very polarizing story (Emerald Twilight) which saw the exit of longtime favorite character Hal Jordan and the rise of a younger, more inexperienced hero.

Even though he was created in the 90's, Kyle's character arc is impressive. He grows from inexperienced rookie to a formidable Corp member. His ring constructs are the most interesting (at least in my opinion) which include chibi characters, Patlabor Mechs and futuristic-looking weaponry. Also his training is not as military as the other lanterns, he learned by his own experiences and from other characters like Alan Scott (the original Green Lantern) and Batman himself.

Kyle can be found in the pages of Green Lantern New Guardians, as the only White Lantern. Here's to 20 more years!
