Grayson #1 Review

Grayson, DC's newest series featuring ex-Robin Dick Grayson was released last Wednesday and it was great. Written by Tim Seeley  with art by Mikel Janin, the issue takes place sometime after Nightwing #30 and sets the stage for this new direction for the main character.  I will try to keep spoilers to a minimum.

The book opens on a Russian train with Dick trying to retrieve a target for Spiral (and organization introduced in Batman Inc.). The issue introduces Dick Grayson new role as a spy and Helena Bertelli (Pre-New 52 Huntress) as his mission partner.
Cheburashka appoves this issue
The character is spot on. I love how Dick uses a gun in this issue.  We all know Batman stand agains the use of guns and Grayson uses one so effectively that his teacher would be proud. I know that spy must use guns but I hope Dick keeps avoiding to shoot one (until he is somehow force to do it). A established New 52 character confronts Grayson in this issue but for me it felt a bit forced and it would have been better to have him watch from afar and establish the fight a couple of issues in the future. I haven't read many Pre-New 52 Huntress, so I can't judge how close her character traits are to her former self.

The art is good. Lots of well rendered facial expression for the charaters and action choreography. In short, this new role for Dick Grayson is interesting. Even though I'm sure he'll be back as Nightwing in the future, I'll enjoy this ride. If you have $2.99 dollars to spend, check it out.  If you don't know who Cheburashka is, here's a video, enjoy.
