Secret Wars and the future of the Marvel Universe

It's been a while and I'm kind of late for this but on January 20th, Marvel held a special event related to the Secret Wars mini series that will be published this summer. And the announcement was big. Spoilers may follow.
Marvel plans to end the Ultimate as well as the main universe (the one published since 1961). Apparently the last Incursion is between the Main and Ultimate Universes and both of them are destroyed and parts of them form Battleworld (where Secret Wars takes place). But what happens after the mini-series? Well, it sounds kind like a reboot. If this is the case, then Marvel is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earth by doing the same thing but 3 decades later.

It is too early to say if the New Marvel Universe after Secret Wars will continue the stories that are being published. What will happen to Cyclops’ Revolution? Will Ironman remain Superior? Will Wolverine remain dead? Is it going to be a “New 52” style of reboot? I’m not sure it will be a reboot but there will be lots of stories that will be discarded (something like Zero Hour in the 90’s), add some things from the Ultimate Universe and try to make it more similar to the Cinematic Universe. For example: Spider-Man never unmasked himself in Civil War, Jean Grey died once, the whole Xorn mess never happened, Ultimate Nick Fury is the only version of the character and the Avengers are the first team of heroes.

Change but stay more or less the same also. Plus, Cyclops promo suit!
What I hope it doesn’t happen is if Marvel gets rid of the characters they don’t have the movie rights, like X-Men and Fantastic Four. They are some of the most popular characters in comics and it would be a mistake to get rid of them.

We’ll have to wait and see.
