Guardians of the Galaxy movie review

Sometimes a studio is so comfortable with an impressive streak of successful movies that takes risks with and idea so bizarre that might destroy their entire reputation, luckily this was not the case with Guardians of the Galaxy.  This movie has  excellent dialogue, acting, chemistry and soundtrack. It balances genre such as sci-fi, comedy and action. to deliver a true summer blockbuster experience that fells like a mix between Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Peter Quill finds and ancient orb and gets stuck in the middle of a war between two civilizations. Joining him are a band of misfits that will help him raise to the top, if the can survive one another.

There is  an amazing chemistry between the Guardians, even if 2 of them are CGI. You feel for them. They’re not the most capable beings but they give their best. Peter Quill is a music-loving space adventurer that serves as the moral compass of the group. Drax values honor in combat but lack social skills. Gamora is a strong female warrior who wish to stop her boss from destroying a planet. Then, there’s Groot and Rocket, a tough but not very smart muscle with a heart of gold and a master tactician all around bad ass. The supporting cast is also great, from Nova Prime to Yondu. One complain would be the villain, Ronan, in a movie with well developed characters, he felt a little bit flat. Nevertheless, he was imposing when on-screen.
A common technical difficulty. Very frequent in traffic jams.
The visuals are good. Groot and Rocket looked amazing but some of the CGI from other creatures didn't look as good. The set were a feast for the eye, from wastelands to an alien metropolis. My favorite setting was Knowhere, a shady town build inside the severe head of a cosmic giant (a Celestial). There are also a couple of references in the background to pop culture from the 80’s (Alf) and the Marvel Universe (Cosmo the dog).

I'm Rocket and I play the Expendables (all of them!!!) in this movie.
Some fans will find  the absence of the character Richard Rider (Nova) disappointing, but there were more than enough characters in this movies (plus, he deserves his own). And the rivalry between Xandar and the Kree was odd. Maybe it was supposed to be Kree vs Skrulls, but they may be hands-off material (the Skrulls could be attached to the Fantastic Four movie license which Fox owns). Again, this are things only comic book fans would notice.

Guardians of the Galaxy is an amazing movie, one of the best this year (next to X-men, Captain America and Edge of Tomorrow). It had a very bizarre concept and character but they manage to pull it off. Great action, great comedy, truly one of Marvel Studios best release (and personal favorite). Highly recommended.
